Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Just Passed A Huge Sales Milestone

Take-Two has revealed during its latest financial report overnight that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million units worldwide, a figure that has cemented the Wild West epic as the fourth best-selling video game of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to sell two million copies during Take-Two’s most recent financial quarter, which is an impressive feat considering the game has been out since late 2018. Furthermore, the 79 million sales milestone means the game has now surpassed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is a huge performer for Nintendo.

Wii Sports ranks third in terms of the best-selling video games, which was released in 2006 as a pack-in game for the Nintendo Wii. The game has sold 82.9 million copies to date. Second place is unsurprisingly Grand Theft Auto V, which has moved a staggering 220 million copies around the globe since its 2013 release, and is available on three generations of hardware.
First place goes to Minecraft, which has sold 350 million units and is unlikely to slow down anytime soon.
Back in September 2025, Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games, named Red Dead Redemption 2 as the ‘best thing‘ he worked on during his time with the studio. Rumours continue to build on a dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the critically acclaimed Wild West title, but nothing official has been confirmed yet.
