The Call Of Duty Movie Shifts Up A Gear With Peter Berg & Taylor Sheridan Now Involved

Paramount has revealed that the Call of Duty movie is finally making significant progress, with the big screen adaptation of Activision’s shooter franchise set to be helmed by Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan.

Berg will be serving as a director, writer and producer on the project, while Sheridan is attached to write and produce. According to the press release, the Call of Duty movie is “designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while badly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences.”

Friday Night Lights and Hancock are a couple of the projects that Berg is best known for, as well as Deepwater Horizon. Meanwhile, Sheridan has worked on Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Landman, while the pair have previously worked together on the Academy Award-nominated Hell or High Water.

Activision’s big screen adaptation of its multi-million selling first-person shooter franchise has been a long time coming. Originally announced in 2015, the Call of Duty movie was put on hold five years ago, and only recently has been confirmed as being in active development.

Hollywood director Steven Speilberg revealed back in early September that he was hoping to direct the movie himself, as he’s a big fan of Call of Duty and an avid gamer in general.

Call of Duty launched back in 2003 for the PC and expanded soon expanded to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo formats with its mainline instalments and various spinoffs. The series has seen an annual release since the mid-2000s and nowadays rotates between multiple studios, including Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, Raven Software, and Infinity Ward. This year’s entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, launches November 14.
