Saints Row Design Director Says Grand Theft Auto VI ‘Deserves’ To Retail At $100
One of the key members of the original Saints Row development team has suggested that Grand Theft Auto VI “deserves” to retail for $100.
Speaking with Esports Insider, Chris Stockman, who served as design director on Saints Row (2006), stated that Rockstar Games’ multi-million selling franchise is the only one that can get away with charging $100 for a new entry, noting that “not all games are created equal.”
They’re the only ones that can get away with it. I don’t think it’s a rising tide that floats all boats. I think that there’ll be a tremendous amount of backlash if everyone switched to $100. Not all games are created equal. I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100. The scope and magnitude of this production deserves that price tag, but not everything is treated equally. It would be a disaster if everyone tried to match them.

There’s been a lot of chatter about the price of GTA VI in recent months, particular given that game prices have been on the rise. For example, Mario Kart World costs $80 and a number of major titles have also jumped to the same price tag as development costs continue to spiral.
While Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has only said that GTA VI will carry a “fair price,” Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has weighed in on the subject and believes the upcoming open-world crime opus will cost $100.
GTA VI is scheduled to launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in May 2026.
