New The Lord Of The Rings Game Is Reportedly In The Works, Is Partially Funded By ADIO
A report on Insider Gaming has claimed that a brand new The Lord of the Rings video game is in the works, and is being partially funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, which is believed to be around $100 million.
The deal has been in the works since last year, and, while not signed yet due to the number of moving parts, is said to be made official “soon” and could happen as early as next week. Regarding current funding of the game’s development, it has been funded internally.

What isn’t known at this point is what exactly this new Lord of the Rings game is, as the source didn’t elaborate on what we can expect from the new outing in Middle-earth. However, they did confirm it will be a third-person action game and is being positioned to “compete with Hogwarts Legacy.” Beyond that, the report states that a number of parties are involved in the new The Lord of the Rings game beyond ADIO, such as Embracer, Revenge, and other companies.
Speaking of Embracer Group, it’s worth remembering that the industry giant has held the rights to The Lord of the Rings since 2022. Back in May of this year, the company announced that it was giving its gaming division a shakeup, which involved a rebranding of Middle-Earth and Friends, which was retitled Fellowship entertainment and includes IPs such as The Lord of Rings, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, Dead Island and more.
An official announcement for a new The Lord of the Rings game has yet to be announced.
