Dying Light: The Beast Is Out Now On Xbox, And The Reviews Are Looking Good

We’ve got another major new release that’s just landed on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the form of Dying Light: The Beast, and that means the reviews have landed as well – although only for the PC and PS5 versions.

Yep, it seems Xbox codes weren’t easily accessible prior to release for this one, but the PC and PS5 versions of Dying Light: The Beast are both sitting on a Metacritic average of 78 right now, so it’s off to a good start!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at what some of the reviews are saying:

Much like Kyle Crane’s return, the series has also returned to form with Dying Light: The Beast. Although not a true sequel, it’s a meaningful entry that dials down the tone to a much more sinister and grimier one.

“Dying Light: The Beast is a staggering achievement, recapturing the series’ spirit and elevating it tenfold. The result is a game that, while occupying a much tighter space, manages to feel more alive than Harran or Villedor combined. Techland isn’t reinventing the wheel here, but by revitalizing its own playbook, The Beast is Dying Light in its prime.”

“Dying Light has always been a series that does a few things very well, but would get distracted trying to be a lot more at the same time. Finally, The Beast leans into Dying Light’s best parts, giving you a scarier, tougher, more immersive world to explore than anything in the series before.”

“Dying Light: The Beast went from potential expansion to a fully-fledged sequel, and although its origins are on full display in its narrative and protagonist, it never feels constrained by them. This is a fresh entry into the popular zombie-smashing franchise, taking the action from the city streets to a sleepy Alpine resort, but it’s a welcome change of pace that opens up new and exciting ways to kill truckloads of infected Z-heads – it’s just a shame that the human enemies still aren’t all that interesting to fight.”

IGN (7/10)

“Dying Light: The Beast is a goofy, bloody sequel with a monstrous twist, but doesn’t do much else to mix things up.”

“I’m happy it’s big enough that it doesn’t just feel like a padded-out expansion: with a couple exceptions, The Beast feels like a proper, full-on game. It’s just not as good of a game as the last one.”

“Dying Light: The Beast has great parkour and melee combat, but a bland story and an uninteresting Beast Mode mechanic leave it fun, but ultimately forgettable.”

So, it’s positive news on the whole for Dying Light: The Beast. In terms of Xbox performance, we’re still waiting on some resolution and FPS tests to arrive, but it seems the Series S version runs at 30FPS – we’ll let you know more on Friday.
