Xbox Game Pass Helps Dead Island 2 To Huge Player Milestone As Dev Teases Sequel
Dead Island 2 developer Dambuster Studios has given us an update on how its zombie-slaying sequel is performing, whilst also teasing what’s next for the now-14 year old franchise.
First off, 2023’s Dead Island 2 has now reached a whopping 20 million players across all platforms. The game joined console Game Pass in February 2024 and PC Game Pass last October, so both services will have contributed to this big milestone in recent months.
“It’s been 14 years since Dead Island first splattered onto the scene, stranding players in the blood-soaked paradise of Banoi. Since then, the zompocalypse has crawled from tropical shores to the sun-drenched chaos of HELL-A in Dead Island 2, where over 20 million Slayers have left nothing but carnage behind.”
However, that’s not all that the studio has to update us on. Dambuster has all-but confirmed that Dead Island 3 is coming, hinting that “the next outbreak is already brewing” while the studio begins “carving out what comes next” for the series.
Given that it took, err, a long time for Dead Island 2 to emerge, it’s probably worth being patient for this upcoming sequel. Development should be smoother now though, given that Dambuster has clearly been given the full support of publisher Deep Silver this time around.
