Sam Lake Names The Moomins As A Franchise He’d Like To Work On Outside Of Remedy
Speaking during an interview with The Game Business, Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake has revealed one franchise he’d like to be involved with outside of his company: The Moomins.
For those out of the loop, The Moomins were created by Tove Jansson, a Finnish writer and illustrator, which take the form of hippo-like creatures that have appeared in numerous novels, short stories, picture books, and a comic strip. It’s this franchise that Lake would like to be involved with outside of Remedy.

Elsewhere, Lake revealed described Remedy as a “detour” to his goal of writing novels, something which he hopes to do once he’s retired from making video games. He also joked that he’s still got plenty to in the games industry despite having notched up a few Lifetime Achievement awards.
I’m hoping that I will get a chance once I finally retire from making games to still do creative work, and have smaller, more personal projects. But not yet. There is a slight feeling of… are you trying to tell me something? Am I done? Have I peaked? Are you telling me… ‘okay, run along now’. But no, I still have a lot of passion and ideas.
Back in October 2023, Lake, who also provided the face of Max Payne in the classic PS2 games, said that he’d like to make a dark gothic fantasy game following completion of Alan Wake 2. He also said he’d like such a game to be backed by a “huge budget.’
Remedy is busy with multiple game projects right now, as it’s working on a sequel to Control, remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2, as well as an unannounced title that Lake will be directing. Its latest project, Alan Wake 2, launched in October 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S and has been a critical and commercial success
