One Of The Best COD Campaigns In Recent Memory Comes To Xbox Game Pass Next Month

As we mentioned in that hands-on feature up above, MW2 still packed in a few surprises as well, despite its more grounded take on modern warfare. One particular mission we really enjoyed felt very Watch Dogs in its execution – you’re tasked with pinging around various security cameras to spot soldiers while leading a comrade through an enemy-infested base. You’ve probably played something like this before, but in and amongst an action-packed FPS campaign, MW2 knows how to mix up the pacing quite well.

Modern Warfare 2 is also god damn gorgeous on Xbox Series X and S. Developer Infinity Ward was the first to bring Call of Duty onto fresh tech with 2019’s Modern Warfare, and MW2 remains one of the best uses of said tech to this day. With the yearly release schedule getting harder and harder to maintain these days, some COD games have dropped below the series’ high AAA bar in recent years, but not this one. Modern Warfare 2 hasn’t aged in the slightest.

It’s been a while since we’ve properly dipped into the co-op and multiplayer modes for MW2, so those might need a bit more investigation before singing their praises in 2025, but we can confidently say that this game’s campaign is easily worth playing on Xbox Game Pass. Modern Warfare 2 will mark Microsoft’s third Call of Duty title to come to Game Pass, and it lands in the library on May 1st.
