New Resident Evil Movie In The Works At Sony, Set To Arrive In 2026 With Barbarian Director Zach Cregger At The Helm
A new report from Deadline reveals that there’s a new live action Resident Evil movie in the works at Sony, with Barbarian director Zach Cregger tapped to direct.
Cregger is also co-writing the script alongside John Wick Chapter 3 and 4 writer Shay Hatten, though for now any details about the script or the plot of the film is being kept secret.
Save for one tidbit, which is that according to Deadline’s report, this new film “harkens back to the original Capcom game’s horror roots.”
It’s currently set to arrive in theatres on September 18, 2026, with PlayStation Productions also working on producing the film.
So even though we don’t know much of anything about this new Resident Evil film, it looks like there’s a chance this will be very different from previous live action Resident Evil films, in the sense that it’ll focus more on horror than action.
And that sounds pretty exciting. A Resident Evil 7-type shift for the Resident Evil films with the focus put more on making a horror movie could be exactly what the franchise needs.
