Fable Has Been Delayed Into 2026, And There’s Already Speculation The Delay Is To Get The PS5 Version Ready To Release Day 1

Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios confirmed on Tuesday that Fable, the highly anticipated return of the beloved Xbox franchise, this time developed by Playground Games, has been delayed out of 2025 and into 2026.

That’s not the biggest surprise, Fable is a big franchise for the Xbox platform and Xbox fans, so it’s understandable that Playground is getting as much time as it needs to make sure that this new Fable game is able to stick the landing.

What’s also not a surprise, is that part of the speculation behind the delay points to Playground polishing up the rumoured PS5 version of the game, so that it’s ready to launch alongside the Xbox and PC versions.

That speculation comes from NateTheHate, an industry insider who has a pretty good track record when it comes to these kinds of things. To be fair, he does clarify his comments to be just speculation, so take it with the grain of salt it deserves.

At the same time, because Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer has been clear that there’s no game off the table, as far as what’ll be coming to PlayStation from Xbox’s suite of first-party studios, then there’s no reason to think that one of these big games will arrive on PS5 the same day they do other platforms.

Regardless, we’ll see what happens as we get closer to next year. Perhaps we’ll have a proper release date for Fable before 2025 is over, and then we might have our answer if it’ll launch on PS5 as well.
