Patapon Spiritual Successor Ratatan Showcases Its First Gameplay, Closed Beta Starts This Week

Ratatan, the spiritual successor of the beloved PlayStation classic Patapon, finally showcased some gameplay during the ID@Xbox 2025 showcase on Monday.

While it’ll eventually be coming to PS5 and PS4, it’ll first be available on PC. A few lucky players will also be able to try it out soon, since a closed beta for the game is kicking off on February 27, 2025.

The short look we did get at gameplay showed how the rhythm gameplay players loved about Patapon is back in full force, with a bright a colorful world for players to explore.

Ratatan is a new game from Patapon’s creator, Hiroyuki Kotani, who is making this game with his team at Ratata Arts. The game hit its stretch goals for console releases almost immediately, after the studio put up a Kickstarter page.

Hopefully the wait isn’t too much longer, for PlayStation fans dying to play a Patapon-like game, and from Patapon’s creator.
