Larian Studios Says “Don’t Hold Us To A Date” While Joking It’s Next Game Will Arrive In 2029

Baldur’s Gate 3 was the biggest game of 2023, after originally launching in early access on PC back in 2020 and then in its final 1.0 version three years later.

Even before that early access launch, it was many years of development that led to the 2023 launch. So it’s not unexpected that little more than a year since it’s launch, developer Larian Studios is trying to quell questions regarding when it’ll next have a game on shelves.

Speaking at the SEA Game Awards when accepting a Special Recognition Award, Larian Studios chief executive officer Swen Vincke said “We need to work hard on the next game so we can be back here in five years.”

Afterwards, IGN asked Vincke about his five year estimate, saying while laughing “I knew you’d pick up on that. It was just a joke. I don’t know, we’ll release it when it’s ready. They’re big games and it takes time, so don’t hold us to a date.”

Five years from now would put Larian’s next game into 2029, though the more likely scenario is that we would be so lucky, for Larian to be ready by then.
