Hideo Kojima Had Plenty Of Offers For A Death Stranding Movie, But Chose A24 Because He Wants “To Make A Slightly Different Kind Of Film With A24”

Death Stranding is being adapted into a film, something that feels inevitable looking back considering that it already had a Hollywood-packed cast.

The movie is still in its early days in the sense that it’s not yet begun filming or any full production work, but we’re already starting to get an idea of what this movie will be – or more accurately, what it won’t be.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, legendary creator Hideo Kojima spoke about how he had a lot of offers from different studios wanting to make a Death Stranding movie. We know that in the end A24 won out, and Kojima explained why that was, and he also clarified that he’s not directing the movie, just working as a producer on it.

“I have no intention of directing it myself, so I am involved with the producer in terms of the plot, etc. The other film companies that had approached me had mostly offered to make it with a big budget and lots of explosions’, but I didn’t want that. I want to make a slightly different kind of film with A24.”

Death Stranding definitely has its more bombastic moments, but it’s clear that Kojima didn’t want the movie to resemble the parts of the game that, realistically, aren’t the focus.

Whatever the film ends up being, it’ll definitely be worth checking out.
