Wuthering Waves Yangyang build

Wuthering Waves Yangyang is one of the first friends the Rover makes in Kuro Games’ open-world RPG, so it makes sense that you’d want to build her. You unlock this aero sword user at the very start of your journey, so she’s extremely handy to have around in the early game.

See how Yangyang stacks up against the rest of the resonators in our Wuthering Waves tier list, or grab yourself some extra pulls with our Wuthering Waves codes. We’ve also got build guides for Wuthering Waves’ Encore, Wuthering Waves’ Yinlin, and Wuthering Waves’ Rover to help you out.

Here’s everything in our best Wuthering Waves Yangyang build:

What’s the best Wuthering Waves Yangyang build?

Yangyang is a four-star resonator who uses the aero element and fights with a sword. We recommend you equip her with the following weapons and echoes.

Best weapon Emerald of Genesis (five-star)
Weapon substitutes Commando of Conviction or Lunar Cutter
Best echo set Moonlit clouds
Main stats
  • Crit rate
  • Crit damage
  • Aero damage bonus
  • Attack%
Sub-stats
  • Energy regeneration
  • Crit rate/damage
  • Attack%
  • Resonance liberation damage bonus

While you can technically build her as a support, Yangyang excels as a sub-DPS unit, especially in the early game as you get her for free. The further you get in the game, the less useful she is, so be sure to make use of her in the early game while you pull for stronger characters.

We recommend equipping Yangyang with a full set of moonlit clouds echoes including an Impermanence Heron, and the five-star sword Emerald of Genesis.

Who is Yangyang?

Yangyang is an Outrider from Jinzhou and one of the first characters that the Wuthering Waves Rover meets when you start the game. She aims to bring comfort and companionship to those around her as she travels around the world.

How do I use Yangyang?

As a starting character, Yangyang’s kit is relatively easy to understand. She’s the only resonator in the game that can recover energy with their outro skill, so she pairs well with ultimate-dependent main DPS units. Her ultimate also acts as crowd control, letting you group up enemies before unleashing more powerful attacks.

Yangyang’s active skills

Skill Effect
Basic attack – Feather as Blade Yangyang performs up to four consecutive attacks with her sword that deal aero damage
Heavy attack Consume a set amount of stamina to lunge forward and deal more aero damage
Heavy attack – Zephyr Song Using a basic attack after a dodge counter or a heavy attack performs Zephyr Song, dealing additional aero damage
Mid-air attack Yangyang consumes a set amount of stamina to perform a plunging attack that deals aero damage
Dodge counter Use a basic attack after a successful dodge to swiftly thrust forward and deal aero damage
Resonance skill – Zephyr Domain Yangyang deals aero damage with a swirling vortex that also gathers enemies together
Resonance liberation – Wind Spirals Conjure an even larger cyclone to deal heavy aero damage and gather enemies together
Intro skill – Cerulean Song Yangyang launches the target into the air and deals aero damage
Outro skill – Whispering Breeze The incoming resonator restores four resonance energy per second for five seconds

Yangyang’s passive skills

Skill Effect
Forte Circuit – Echoing Feathers Yangyang can hold up to three Melodies. She obtains one Melody whenever any of the following occur:

  • When basic attack four hits
  • When Zephyr Song hits
  • When Zephyr Domain hits
  • When she casts Cerulean Song

Stormy Strike – When Yangyang has three Melodies, she can cast Stormy Strike after a heavy attack to deal additional aero damage

Feather Release – When Yangyang has three Melodies, casting basic attacks in mid-air causes her to consume them all, deal consecutive strikes, and then plunge to the ground dealing aero damage. She sheathes her sword upon landing, dealing even more aero damage. This is considered a basic attack.

What’s the best weapon for Yangyang?

Yangyang’s best weapon is Emerald of Genesis as it plays into her energy regeneration utility and boosts her attack. If you don’t have this sword, Lunar Cutter and Commando of Conviction both offer decent attack buffs, though you’ll need to increase their rank to compete with Emerald of Genesis.

Weapon Effect
Emerald of Genesis (five-star) Increases energy regeneration by 12.8%. When Yangyang casts her resonance skill, her attack increases by 6%, stacking up to two times. This effect lasts for ten seconds
Lunar Cutter (four-star) Yangyang gains six stacks of Oath upon entering the battlefield. Each stack increases attack by 2%, up to six stacks. You can trigger this effect once every 12 seconds. Yangyang loses one stack of Oath every two seconds, and gains six stacks upon defeating an enemy
Commando of Conviction (four-star) When Yangyang casts her intro skill, her attack increases by 15%, lasting for 15 seconds

What are the best echoes for Yangyang?

As a sub-DPS with great energy regeneration buffs for her team, Yangyang’s best echo set is five-piece moonlit clouds. As well as increasing her energy regeneration, the five-piece set bonus makes it so her outro skill buffs the next character’s attack as well as their energy regen, making her perfect for setting up powerful ultimates.

The best main echo for Yangyang is either Impermanence Heron or Bell-Borne Geochelone, depending on your build needs. Impermanence Heron leans even more into her energy regen and further buffs her outro skill, but Bell-Borne Geochelone creates a shield that significantly reduces incoming damage and buffs damage dealt. This shield also transfers to the incoming character.

Echo Effect
Impermanence Heron Tap the echo button to perform a powerful diving attack that deals havoc damage, or hold the button to stay transformed and continuously spit flames that deal havoc damage. When the first attack lands on an enemy, the current character regains ten resonance energy. If they use their outro skill within the next 15 seconds, the incoming character’s damage dealt is boosted by 12% for 15 seconds
Bell-Borne Geochelone Deal glacio damage based on the current character’s defense to nearby enemies, and obtain a Bell-Borne Shield that lasts for 15 seconds. The Bell-Borne Shield provides 50% damage reduction and a 10% damage boost for the current team members, and disappears after enemies hit the current character three times
Feilian Beringal Transform into Feilian Beringal to perform a powerful kick. If the kick lands on an enemy, immediately perform a follow-up strike. Both attacks deal aero damage. After the follow-up strike hits, the current character’s aero damage increases by 12%, and the heavy attack damage increases by 12% for 15 seconds

What’s the best Yangyang team comp?

Yangyang is a super flexible sub-DPS who can fit into most early-game teams, letting you make the most of your free characters or test out your premium five-stars without needing their full team.

The best synergies for Yangyang are:

  • Wuthering Waves Chixia – Aside from the Rover, Chixia is the first DPS you get in Wuthering Waves, so Yangyang can help buff her ultimate thanks to her outro skill. Chixia requires a lot of field time and a hefty amount of energy, so Yangyang’s low field time requirements and energy buffs fit her perfectly.
  • Wuthering Waves Jiyan – If you’ve managed to pull Jiyan but don’t have the ideal team for him, Yangyang’s aero damage synergy and aforementioned buffs make her a great companion for him in the interim.
  • Wuthering Waves Verina – Put simply, Verina is the best healer in the game, and every team needs a good healer. Plus, she offers a 20% damage boost of her own, making her and Yangyang a great combination for buffing your DPS of choice.
  • Wuthering Waves Baizhi – If you’re free-to-play or still in the early game, Baizhi is also a great choice for Yangyang for her healing prowess.

This is the best Yangyang team comp in Wuthering Waves:
