Blizzard’s World Of Warcraft Team Has Unionized As Over 500 Members Have Formed The World Of Warcraft Game Makers Guild

The World of Warcraft team at Blizzard has unionized, with over 500 developers forming the World of Warcraft Game Makers Guild and joining the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Just days after the majority of Bethesda Game Studios developers unionize with CWA forming OneBGS, the formation of the WoWGG-CWA makes two massive steps forward for unionization in the games industry this week alone.

Just how OneBGS is a wall-to-wall union and the first one under Microsoft, the WoWGG-CWA is now the second wall-to-wall union under Microsoft and the first one of its kind under Activision Blizzard. It’s also the largest union at a Microsoft studio.

“What we’ve accomplished at World of Warcraft is just the beginning. My colleagues and I are embarking on a quest to secure better pay, benefits, and job security through a strong union contract,” said Eric Lanham, test analyst at Blizzard and member of the WoWGG-CWA in a press release.

“We know that when workers have a protected voice, it’s a win-win for employee standards, the studio, and World of Warcraft fans looking for the best gaming experience.

Through our union, we’re ready to tank any obstacles, heal any wounds and DPS through the challenges ahead. Together, we will ensure a full tier set bonus with the inclusion of all job titles in the same union.”

More and more the games industry is unionizing. This week has seen two big steps forward for unionization across the industry.
