More Evidence Points To Existence Of Horizon MMORPG – Rumour
Further fuel has been added to the fire that an MMORPG based on the Horizon franchise is indeed in development, that is according to video game researcher ‘Kurakasis’.
Posting on X, (formerly known as Twitter) Kurakasis has collated the information from a number of job listings posted by NCSOFT employers which shows that the game is being developed under the codename ‘Project Skyline’, and has a logo which bears a striking similarity to the font and style used in the Horizon games.
Moreover, it’s noted that the game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, has approximately 140 people working on it, (as of September 2023) and is expected to release ‘significantly later’ than Aion 2, another NCSOFT-developed MMORPG which is currently anticipated to arrive in 2024/2025.
Curiously, however, PS5 is not listed as a platform, with PC and mobile currently touted as the targets for release. That’s not to say one won’t arrive at some point but it doesn’t seem to be in scope just yet.
There’s further speculation that the game will be called ‘Land of Salvation’ given a domain registration by NCSOFT in early December of last year.
This comes fresh off the news of a strategic partnership between Sony and NCSOFT whose expertise lies within the MMO field, given the success of the likes of the original Aion and Guild Wars 2.
Speaking of the partnership, NCSOFT chief executive officer Taekjin Kim said:
“This partnership with SIE is the beginning of our efforts to build various synergies together, utilizing both companies’ core competencies, technological capabilities, and expertise.”
He continued: “We will deliver a new and enjoyable experience to our audience across and beyond genres and regions.”
If true, we could be approaching an intended saturation point for the series, with Sony likely banking on the success of the upcoming Netflix adaptation alongside the rumoured remaster of Zero Dawn and indeed a separate co-op offering to help drive the series to new heights.
