Baldur’s Gate III Cross-Play Is Still Part Of The Road Map, Says Larian Studios

Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate III Cross-Play is part of the game’s roadmap and was always intend to be added at some point, although the company wasn’t able to implement it in time for launch.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Michael Douse, Larian Studios’ director of publishing, wasn’t able to provide an idea of when we’ll see Cross-Play, but it sounds like it’s definitely on the cards.

It was always in the planning, but we knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready for, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure.

Baldur’s Gate is out today for PS5 and was released for the PC back in August. The game is already one of the highest-rated games for Sony’s console to date, and yesterday was sitting at a tidy 97 on Metacritic. Set over 120 years after the events of Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, this latest entry in the fantasy-RPG series features a branching plot where although the core story elements are largely the same, but plenty of variation in key details based on your choices, particularly for side quests. Players are able to create a single or multiple characters and establish a party before heading out on your journey, with the game incorporating turn-based combat similar to its predecessors, which is based on the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition rules.
