Alex Wright Says WCW Power Plant May Have Tried To Make Him Quit

Alex Wright believes trainers at the WCW Power Plant may have deliberately pushed him to see whether they could make him quit.

Wright discussed his early training period during an interview with Bryan Asbury on Developmentally Speaking, available on the show’s official YouTube channel.

Wright described the Power Plant as a place where he continued training while waiting for WCW to find a place for him on television.

One particular session still stands out.

“I remember one day I kept running the ropes like the whole day.”

Wright said the punishment took a significant physical toll.

“My back was swollen that much.”

WCW’s rings used steel-cable ropes, which made repeatedly hitting them especially painful. Wright came away believing the drill was as much a mental test as physical training.

“I think they just wanted to see if I going to quit.”

Quitting was not an option for Wright, who credited a lesson from his father and trainer, Steve Wright.

“You never quit.”

Wright survived the Power Plant period and eventually became a regular WCW television performer. WrestlingHeadlines recently covered another former WCW talent, Asya, discussing her own connection to the Power Plant.
