Grand Theft Auto VI To Launch As A Digital Only Title

Today, Rockstar Games unveiled the pricing of Grand Theft Auto VI. Not a lot of people were surprised that the title would launch at a higher price than your standard title, but what caught consumers by surprise was that the game would launch digitally only.
Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto would launch its two editions of the highly anticipated title on November 19, 2026, but both would be digital-only. You can still buy the game at a retailer and receive a physical box of the game, but you won’t find a Blu-Ray disk inside that box. Instead, you’ll find a digital code to redeem on PSN instead.

It’s important to note that Rockstar stated that the game “Won’t be on disk at launch.” This, of course, could mean that Rockstar does plan to release a physical version of the game sometime after launch.
The lack of a physical version is disappointing to hear, especially for those looking for that preservation of titles. We can only surmise why the game isn’t releasing on physical media.
The most obvious is that Rockstar is trying to avoid spoilers and leaks, as some retailers tend to sell games early. Another reason is that the game is just too large to fit on a physical disk, and they need more time to figure out how to fit it all.
A lack of a physical Collector’s Edition is also a surprise, leading me personally to believe that maybe Rockstar just isn’t ready to launch the game physically or be prepared for Physical Collector’s Editions.
Instead of delaying the game to accommodate this, they have decided to release it digitally only and will release a physical edition when they announce the inevitable PC version of the title.
