Xbox & Nintendo Console Sales Suffer YoY Decreases In New September 2026 US Report

It’s no big secret that console sales are struggling across the board right now amidst rising prices and an ongoing component crisis, so we’re not exactly shocked that Xbox Series sales were down YoY for September in the US.
This is coming from Mat Piscatella at analysis firm Circana, who says Xbox Series X and S sales were down 27% compared to the same time in September 2025, whereas Nintendo Switch 2 sales were down 14%.
However, sales of the PlayStation 5 were actually up 22%.
Xbox’s console sales appear to represent a new September low for the brand according to Piscatella, replacing the same record that was set last year. Again though, keep in mind this is only based on sales in the United States.
Look, none of this is very surprising. Xbox Series X and S prices are pretty ridiculous at this point due to the component crisis, so it’s no wonder that Microsoft is struggling to sell consoles right now. It doesn’t sound the like the situation is going to get any better in the near future, although maybe GTA 6 will help boost sales to end the year.
Speaking of that, it should be noted that Xbox sales are reportedly up year-on-year here in the UK, and the GTA 6 Extended Preview appeared to cause a temporary massive spike in console sales back at the start of September.
