Former World Champion Surprise Return On 8/12 AEW Dynamite
A former AEW World Champion made his surprise return to AEW television on Wednesday night.
Swerve Strickland appeared during the August 12 episode of AEW Dynamite from the Pearl Theater at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV., interrupting a celebration involving the new AEW World Trios Champions.
Tony Schiavone welcomed Hangman Page, Brody King and Bandido to the ring after the trio captured the titles at last week’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico.
After Bandido and King addressed the crowd, Page was about to speak when Strickland’s music hit. Swerve emerged alongside Prince Nana, marking his first AEW television appearance in a couple of months.
Strickland immediately pointed out his history with all three champions, referring to the group as three men who have bad blood with him. He brought up defeating Bandido at AEW Double or Nothing before reminding Brody King of their violent past, noting that the last time they crossed paths, King was left lying in a pool of his own blood.
Swerve then turned his attention to Page and their lengthy rivalry. Strickland noted that while he was away, Hangman went after the AEW World Championship and came up short. He questioned what Page’s legacy would be from here and whether he planned to simply ride off into the sunset.
Page fired back by pointing out that Strickland hasn’t exactly had much to show for his own efforts lately. Hangman said he has watched Swerve do some “crazy sh*t” over the past year without producing many results.
The confrontation was interrupted by Ricochet, Gates of Agony and Lethal Twist. Ricochet questioned why Strickland was involving himself in “official trios business” before taking aim at Prince Nana and bringing up Swerve’s previous issues with Gates of Agony.
Ricochet credited himself with recognizing the potential of Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona after Swerve abandoned them, ultimately leading to their run as AEW World Trios Champions.
He then turned his focus toward the new champions, arguing that Kaun’s shoulders were not down during last week’s title change. Ricochet joked that if AEW were the NFL, instant replay would prove his point before demanding a rematch.
Ricochet eventually told Strickland to “get to stepping,” and Swerve initially obliged. Before leaving, however, Strickland got in one final shot.
Swerve said Brody King might be doing a lot of barking, but Ricochet was the one who was a “b*tch.”
An enraged Ricochet attempted to go after Strickland but was held back by Gates of Agony. Page then offered The Demand an immediate championship rematch, but Ricochet declined, saying the match would happen on their time.
