Anthony Bowens Touts AEW Roster Diversity & Talks WWE v AEW
MSR sports columnist Charles Hallman sat down with pro wrestling star Anthony Bowens while at the first-ever AEW Brawl in the Ballpark special event at Target Field in Minneapolis, MN.
During the interview, which was published on August 12 at Spokesman-Recorder.com, Bowens spoke about AEW having a very diverse talent roster, with wrestlers and performers of all backgrounds.
“I think AEW has one of the most diverse or most elite and diverse rosters in the world,” Bowens stated. “We have the first Black world heavyweight champion, Swerve Shane Strickland, who won two years ago. He’s won it twice.”
He wasn’t done there.
“The roster from all types of nationalities from Black to Japanese to Islander,” he continued. “I’m also part of the LGBTQ+ community. The first trans woman to win a women’s title, Sonny Kiss. A melting pot of wrestling styles, and it’s very inclusive. It’s an environment where I’ve never had to worry about anybody.”
The former tag-team member of The Acclaimed also spoke about AEW being the alternative to WWE for the average pro wrestling fan and general entertainment consumer.
“We consider AEW the alternative to WWE,” explained Bowens. “WWE is very much blending as much pop culture and entertainment, and there happens to be some wrestling. If you love pro wrestling, and you love the variety of it, if you like technical wrestling, AEW is for you.”
