Surprise! Quake Adds Free New Episode With 600G Xbox Achievements

QuakeCon has officially kicked off today in Texas, so we assumed we’d get at least one surprise reveal at some point over the next few days, and one has already arrived in the form of a brand-new episode for Quake!
The episode is known as “Dawn of the Machine”, and it features “19 all-new maps across a cohesive campaign” along with a new soundtrack and Deathmatch map. Here’s how MachineGames describes it:
“As the battle-hardened Ranger, players survive a labyrinthine dimension where time folds back onto itself, creating a unique looping structure where each visit in the present reshapes the future. Collect runes to unlock previously sealed paths brimming with new routes, encounters and secrets, plus persistent health and ammunition upgrades throughout add a new layer of progression to Quake’s classic gameplay.”
“As players attempt to break the cycle, they will face deadly new twists on familiar foes, including the Rocket Ogre, Demo Dog, Blood Shambler and more. Meet the challenge head-on with new weapon variants like the lightning-charged Super Axe or the Laser Cannon, capable of ricocheting projectiles to perforate enemies from every angle. Only with enough strength (and overwhelming firepower) may Ranger then confront The Nightmare Machine, the font of this dimension’s madness – and his ticket to freedom!”
In addition, Quake: Dawn of the Machine adds three Xbox achievements totalling 600 gamerscore, with those achievements focused on completing the single-player campaign on any difficulty setting, completing it on Nightmare difficulty, and finding the “Death Knight’s Head”.
All of this is available to access at no extra charge if you either own Quake already or have access to it via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium or PC Game Pass, but it’s also on sale for just £3.19 / $3.99 on the Xbox Store right now.
