Rumour — Virtua Fighter Gameplay Leak Reveals Impressive Visuals & ‘Crossroads’ Subtitle

Leaked gameplay footage of the next entry in the Virtua Fighter series has been doing the rounds online today, and with it comes a possible title — Virtua Fighter Crossroads.

The footage was posted on the Virtua Fighter subreddit and appears to have been taken off-screen, so it’s not the best quality but clearly showcases various gameplay footage and interview clips of developers. There’s no word yet on how old the footage is, but it looks impressive enough, showcasing some lovely animation work and some stellar character visuals.

SEGA hasn’t commented on the footage and it isn’t known if it’s actually real, so keep that in mind given that we live in a world where AI can easily come up with stuff that looks convincing enough to be the real deal.

The new Virtua Fighter game is currently in development at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer behind the Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise. Last August, SEGA debuted the first combat gameplay in action for the new Virtua Fighter game, which depicted Sarah Bryant and Akira duking it out. That same month, RGG Studio revealed it has no plans to add any guest characters in the game.

The brainchild of Shenmue and Hang-On creator Yu Suzuki, Virtua Fighter pioneered 3D fighting games following its release back in 1993 in arcades, and was followed by a Sega Saturn release in 1994. Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Fighter 3 appeared on the Saturn and Dreamcast, respectively, and following SEGA’s withdrawal from the hardware business in 2001, the franchise moved to other formats including PlayStation 2.
