Ninja Theory Says Hellblade 2 On PS5 Was A Success

While the jury’s still out on Microsoft’s future plans regarding its first-party content on other formats, developer Ninja Theory has revealed that the PS5 release of Hellblade 2, which arrived last year after originally starting out life as an Xbox-exclusive, has been nothing short of a success.

Speaking in its latest financial statement, the developer confirmed that it made a profit of £5 million and noted the “successful release of Hellblade 2 on PlayStation 5.” While it didn’t reveal any sales figures for the game, it commented that it’s now focussing its efforts on “future project work,” so it sounds like the studio is going to be busy cooking up whatever’s coming next.

Senna’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is among a number of games that take advantage of PS5 Pro, and utilise Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), as well as Performance and Quality modes that offer increased dynamic resolution.

Originally released for the PC and Xbox Series X/S in May 2024, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is the critically acclaimed follow-up to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and sees the titular heroine returning for a new adventure that sees her battling tough the Viking Iceland during the 9th century. You’ll have to navigate treacherous terrain, including ice-covered slopes and storm-battered coastlines as you battle with your inner demons, including Senua’s struggle against psychosis. Last month, Alinea Analytics revealed sales estimates of for PS5 versions of former Microsoft exclusives, with Forza Horizon 5 taking the crown with over five million copies sold. It was a bit of a mixed bag, as while titles such as Sea of Thieves sold a couple of million, others including The Outer Worlds 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Microsoft Flight Simulator have failed to reach the one million mark so far.
