Zach Cregger Says His Resident Evil Film May Be Set Parallel To Resident Evil 2’s Events

Zach Cregger, the director of the upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot, has revealed that his movie won’t feature the iconic Nemesis bio-weapon, but says the events of the film may run parallel to Resident Evil 2.

Speaking in a press interview (via GamesRadar), Cregger noted that his favourite creature in the film stalks main character Bryan and evolves over the course of the movie, but noted it’s not Nemesis. Fans will recall Nemesis appeared in Resident Evil 3 and its remake, stalking Jill Valentine throughout Raccoon City and had numerous mutations across the game, the events of which run 24 hours before and after Resident Evil 2.

My favorite [creature in the movie] is kind of the big baddie that sort of evolves and changes and follows [Austin Abrams’ Bryan] over the course of the movie. And I don’t want to say too much about it, but it’s not a Nemesis. So I know people are going to read this and be like, ‘He’s putting a Nemesis in there.’ No, there’s no Nemesis.

You know, where Raccoon City is having its big night, but [we’re telling] just another story that could be happening in parallel to that,” said Cregger.

Resident Evil arrives in cinemas on September 18, 2026 and follows a medical courier named Bryan who becomes caught in the middle of a biohazard outbreak.
