Sony Confirms Upgraded PSSR Is Rolling Out For PS5 Owners In ‘Coming Weeks,’ Resident Evil Requiem Is The First Game To Use It

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it is going to be rolling out an upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) in the coming weeks, with Resident Evil Requiem – released today on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S – is the first game to utilise the upgraded tech.
Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, the format holder revealed that the new PSSR upgrade stems from Project Amethyst, its collaboration with AMD, and will see multiple existing games will upgrade to take advantage of the feature. Furthermore, Sony reveal there will be PS5 system software update released at the time, with the option “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” appearing in the PS5 Pro settings allowing you to use the upgraded PSSR on titles that support the current version of the tech.
We’ve been hard at work on a new version of PSSR, which takes a very different approach to not only the neural network but also the overall algorithm. We are happy to share that Resident Evil Requiem – shipping today – is the first title to use this more advanced PSSR, which is helping to keep both frame rate and image quality high.
Resident Evil Requiem is now available on PS5 and you can read our full review here.
