God Of War Studio Has Another Unannounced PS5 Game In The Works That Could Be Revealed This Year

Following the surprise news yesterday that Sony Santa Monica Studio is remaking the original God of War trilogy, it’s been claimed by insider Shinobi602 that the California-based developer has another, unannounced PS5 title in the pipeline.

When asked by a user on ResetEra if Cory Barlog’s new project could be announced this year, the usually-reliable tipster replied: “Like I said given the quarter they’re targeting, I do expect that. Probably May State of Play or the summer Keighleys (SGF). As of now I don’t know yet. If not by then, then they’ve either pushed the release out further or doing a shorter reveal to release.”

We’re not sure at this point if this refers to the ‘technically ambitious‘ new IP that Barlog previously talked about last year. However, it’s also worth mentioning that Shuhei Yoshida said in an interview in November 2025 that a new IP at Sony Santa Monica was scrapped despite having put $25 million into working on it. He didn’t specify if this was the aforementioned new IP Cory spoke about.

Beyond that, you may recall that it was rumoured that a new God of War title set in Egypt was brewing at Sony Santa Monica, with Jason Schreier of Bloomberg describing a project that isn’t a new IP but “might feel like one.” This would certainly fit the bill for a God of War game, albeit one featuring a brand new setting, and ties in with reports that the studio has multiple projects in the works.

In the meantime, you can tuck into the newly-announced God of War: Sons of Sparta now on PS5. No release date for the first instalment in the God of War remake trilogy has been announced yet, but it’s still early in development at this point.
