Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series Officially Confirms Jason Isaacs & Sigourney Weaver Have Joined The Cast

Amazon has officially cast Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver for roles in its upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series, following previous reports that both actors were being lined up for the show.

Isaacs, who is probably best known for his work in the Harry Potter movie franchise, will be portraying Atlas DeMornay, who is Lara Croft’s uncle. You may recall that Atlas was heavily mentioned in the latest Tomb Raider trilogy from Crystal Dynamics, where the character was attempting to nab control of Croft Manor. Meanwhile, Aliens heroine Weaver is set to play a ‘mysterious, high-flying woman’ named Evelyn Wallis, who is looking to ‘exploit Lara’s talents.’

As the Tomb Raider series looks to enter full production, Sophie Turner, who portrays Lara, and showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge had the following to say to fans:

I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!

Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!

Other castings were confirmed, including Martin Bobb-Semple (Zip) Bill Paterson (Winston), Jack Bannon (Gerry), John Heffernan (David), Celia Imrie (Francine), Paterson Joseph (Thomas Warner), Sasha Luss (Sasha), Juliette Motamed (Georgia), and August Wittgenstein (Lukas).

Tomb Raider celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and Crystal Dynamics have confirmed that two new projects are in the pipeline: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a full remake of the original 1996 action-adventure classic, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which is a brand new instalment.
