Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis Leaks Ahead Of Game Awards 2025, Looks To Be A Remake Of 1996’s Tomb Raider

Fresh on the heels that we’ll be witnessing the ‘future‘ of the Tomb Raider series at The Game Awards 2025 today, leaked footage of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has emerged online, confirming what appears to be a full remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider.

Images reveal that Lara Croft will be wielding her iconic dual pistols and sporting a similar outfit to her first PlayStation adventure from nearly 30 years ago. The title Legacy of Atlantis seemingly does confirm a remake or perhaps a reimagining of Tomb Raider, as the 1996 original had Lara searching for the lost City of Atlantis in a journey that took her to locations including Greece and Egypt.

To be fair, a remake of Tomb Raider would be a fantastic way to celebrate 30 years of the franchise, and there’s nothing to say that other projects aren’t also in the pipeline. This isn’t the first time Tomb Raider has been revamped, either: the game was overhauled in 2007 for PS2 and other formats as Tomb Raider Anniversary.

Crystal Dynamics has been working on the next chapter in the Tomb Raider series since 2022, so presumably this is the game they’ve been working on. Up until now there wasn’t much known about the project other than it’s powered by Unreal Engine 5, and would be a narrative-driven single-player title.

Beyond that, we have the second and final series of Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft to tuck into, as well as the live-action TV series starring Sophie Turner currently in the works at Amazon Prime.

Stay tuned for more details at The Game Awards 2025 later today.
