How Important Is The Xbox Play Anywhere Program To You?

Yesterday, in our live thread for the Xbox Partner Preview showcase here at Pure Xbox, there was a bit of discussion about Xbox Play Anywhere and how important it’s become to Microsoft in recent times. A few members of the PX community asked if we could put a poll together on it in the future, and so we’re here to do exactly that!

Let’s just recap a little bit – Xbox Play Anywhere is the name for the program / service in which you buy a game on your Xbox console and get the Xbox PC version for free. Microsoft has been pushing this heavily for around a year now, although the program itself has existed for a long time (and became an afterthought for quite a while).

In fact, it’s become so important that every single game in yesterday’s Xbox Partner Preview showcase as marketed as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so clearly it’s a major focus for Microsoft going forward:

Xbox president Sarah Bond recently mentioned in an interview with Fortune Magazine that Xbox Play Anywhere’s resurgence came about because of data – players were reportedly spending 20% more time with XPA games compared to non-XPA games at one point, and therefore the team started to “invest more” and “amplify the catalog”.

Having said all of that, we’re keen to know what you personally think about Xbox Play Anywhere and how much it guides your personal decisions when it comes to playing on Xbox and PC. Do you now factor it into whether you buy a game or not? Are you more likely to buy something for Xbox than PS5 or Switch because of Play Anywhere?

There are a lot of benefits to this program for Xbox owners, but we can also understand those who don’t really get any use out of it – people who just want to play on their Xbox console and have little interest in the PC versions as well.

So, what’ll it be? Let us know your thoughts about Xbox Play Anywhere down in the poll and comments below.
