Mike Pondsmith Is Keen To Get Keanu Reeves Back For Cyberpunk 2

Mike Pondsmith, the creator of Cyberpunk, has revealed during a recent livestream with developer CD Projekt RED that he’s eager to get Keanu Reeves to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhands in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

In case you missed it, Reeves told IGN in September that he’d love to play the character again, and so Pondsmith has now revealed that he has ways to bring Silverhand back for another appearance. He also mentioned Scarlet Johansson as someone who could join the franchise, albeit as a bit of a light-hearted banter after noting we’ve already got Reeves and Idris Elba.

Not that long ago, I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again. I have ways to do that, Keanu, contact me.

Let me get this straight. You got Keanu Reeves, then you get Idris Elba. What’s next? Scarlett Johansson?… Scarlet, you know, I have roles for you. You can do anything….But, seriously, two things hit me. One, they worked really well for the characters. Two, they were people, actors, who wanted to play those characters so they immersed themselves in it.

Speaking back in May 2025 at Poland’s Digital Dragons conference, Pondsmith revealed that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will be able to visit “another city,” although didn’t go into any further details. That same month, CDPR confirmed that the game, known previously as Project Orion internally, is now in preproduction.
