Xbox Details All Of The New Content Packed Into Its Halo: Campaign Evolved Remake

Halo: Campaign Evolved has been announced as a major remake of the first Halo game coming in 2026, which of course means that the bulk of this Halo experience will be overhauled content from the OG release. However, Halo Studios is using the opportunity to also add a bunch of new content to the first Halo – and it’s detailed all of what’s new in a fresh blog post.

The most substantial part of this new content is a batch of prequel missions that will play out before the main Combat Evolved campaign. In total there are three new missions here, featuring “new environments, characters and enemies” – along with fresh interactions between Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.

Xbox says “we’ll find out more about [those missions] very soon” – so in that case, what else is new? Well, the team is adding an optional sprint mechanic which wasn’t present in the original Halo – alongside “nine additional iconic weapons from across the Halo series”, the ability to hijack vehicles and the option to “pilot the Covenant Wraith tank for the first time in Halo: Combat Evolved”.

While there’s plenty of new stuff here then, the team says that it’s “taken great care to not modernize for the sake of modernization”. Here’s a bit more on what they mean by that:

“Preserving the Halo spirit means the team has taken great care to not modernize for the sake of modernization. It’s not about rebuilding Halo: Combat Evolved’s story and spaces to ‘fit in’ with a roster of today’s games, but to ensure that its original feel has evolved to suit modern players. Every change has been shaped by the same question: Does this still feel like Halo?”
