Horizon Zero Dawn Movie Filming To Kick Off In 2026, Sony Targeting 2027 Release

PlayStation Productions‘ Asad Qizilbash has revealed that the movie adaptation of Guerrilla GamesHorizon is scheduled to start filming next year, with the project set to release in cinemas in 2027.

That’s according to a legal document that has been shared with The Game Post which reveals the Horizon movie already has a working script and Sony is currently on the lookout for a director.

We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures. We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.

The details above come from a sworn declaration filed by Qizilbash yesterday, which pertains to the ongoing Sony lawsuit against Tencent regarding the development of Light of Motiram, which is described by the PlayStation manufacturer as a blatant knockoff of Horizon. Earlier this week, Sony described Tencent’s defence over the matter as ‘nonsense.’

Horizon didn’t originally start out life as a film, as it was initially going be made into a TV series for Netlfix. However, the project later transitioned into a full-fledged movie. At the time Qizilbash revealed that the Horizon series “wasn’t creatively going how we wanted to,” and therefore it was decided a movie would be a better fit.
