Viking Survival Effort Valheim PS5 Release Set For 2026
Iron Gate Studio and Coffee Stain Publishing have announced that Valheim, the Viking-themed survival game, will launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. Originally released in Early Access for PC in 2021, the game later expanded to Xbox Series and Xbox One. The PS5 release aims to bring the expansive world to a broader audience. Fans can expect the same unique survival mechanics that made it a hit.
Valheim is set in a procedurally generated purgatory inspired by Viking culture. It supports one to ten players, allowing them to battle, build, and carve out their legacy. Since Early Access, the game has sold over 12 million copies and holds a 94% “Very Positive” rating on Steam. Its mix of exploration, combat, and crafting has drawn players worldwide.
During Early Access, several major updates expanded the game. Hearth & Home improved survival and base-building mechanics. Mistlands added a fog-shrouded biome with new creatures and magic. Ashlands introduced treacherous cliffs and boiling waters, while Call to Arms upgraded combat and added weapons, armor, and crafting materials. Each update gave both new and returning players fresh challenges.
Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist said, “Bringing both new and longtime players to a new platform allows even more people to explore the world we’ve worked so hard to build.” The PS5 release is planned for 2026, though details on cross-play and expansions remain unconfirmed. Fans can expect more information as the release date approaches.
