Moon Mystery Is Coming To Xbox Next Week, And The Reviews Are All Over The Place

We’ve mentioned a lot of indie games coming to Xbox in September 2025 already, but one that’s been getting attention and we’ve not discussed much is Moon Mystery, which is an FPS / puzzle game that first hit PC last October.

FYI, this game’s reviews are all over the place. It doesn’t have many professional reviews, but on Steam it has a “Mixed” rating based on 500 impressions, and the feedback pretty much ranges from amazing to terrible.

So, we’ll fill you in on the game itself in a minute, but here are some of the Steam reviews:

Jacques Bermon Webster II on Steam: “This game is the best indie game I have played in a while. The story is highly engaging, the graphics are beautiful. I love how you begin to love TOBY and Sam, and his goal to get home to his wife and son. However, I get there will be bugs so I have forgiven that. I 100 percent recommend this game to others. Devs, what are the chances we get a prequel and sequel DLC for the game?? Anyway amazing work on the game. I LOVE IT.”

Sir T on Steam: “The gameplay loop is you run into some Robots, then you do some kind of puzzle, then more combat. You never face more than 6 robots at a time so it’s manageable even for me who is not an FPS grog. Overall the environments had obviously had a lot of work put into them, and you drive vehicles at a number of points as you travel through the story. The story is servicable at best. The route you take is linear with branches to explore to get more loot. If you are all about action it probably is not the title for you, but for an indie developer this is a good, chill game that you can relax to. This does deserve your support.”

Johntohill on Steam: “Pretty poor. Combat is stiff and not challenging. Level design is pretty okay. But the inane dialogue is tiresome. At least the story had some sort of conclusion. But not worth slogging through nearly 5 hours of this. Avoid.”

See what we mean? It sounds like there’s reason to at least be curious about this one, but based on the Steam feedback, mileage varies significantly about whether it’s worth picking up or not.

If you want to, you can find out for yourself when Moon Mystery releases for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 18th, 2025. The pre-order is already live for £16.74 / $19.99 on the Xbox Store.
