Steven Spielberg Wanted To Direct A Call Of Duty Movie As He’s A Huge Fan Of The Series

Jurassic Park director and all-around Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg has revealed that he would have loved to tackle a Call of Duty movie, as he’s not only an avid gamer but is a big fan of the franchise itself.

Puck News reports that Spielberg cooked up a pitch with Universal Pictures and his production company, Amblin, for Call of Duty publisher Activision, but it was rejected as Spielberg wanted full control of the project. Activision was apparently “spooked” and decided to go with Paramount Pictures’ pitch, which afforded the company more control.

The Call of Duty movie was announced earlier this week with Activision and Paramount officially teaming up to adapt the multi-million selling first-person franchise for the big screen. Activision’s Rob Kostich commented at the time that the “film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started.”

Call of Duty launched back in 2003 for the PC and expanded soon expanded to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo formats with its mainline instalments and various spinoffs. The series has seen an annual release since the mid-2000s and nowadays rotates between multiple studios, including Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, Raven Software, and Infinity Ward. This year’s entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, launches November 14.
