Stillfront has shut down Word Collect and Trivia Star studio Super Free Games.
According to the company’s latest financial report, Stillfront will transfer its Word franchise to Moonfrog in MENA & APAC in late Q3 2025. Other titles will be phased out once they stop generating positive cash flow.
In 2024, the Word franchise generated around SEK 300 million ($31.5m) in annual net revenue.
Stillfront completed the acquisition of Super Free Games in January 2021 in a deal worth $150 million plus potential earnouts.
The transfer and closures are part of a broader strategic review at Stillfront, which also includes shutting down Ellen’s Garden Restoration from the Home Design Makeover franchise.
“Following the successful transfer of 24 legacy games from Storm8, we made the difficult but necessary decision to shut down Super Free’s operations,” said Stillfront president and Group CEO Alexis Bonte.
“The Word franchise will transfer over to the Moonfrog studio in MENA & APAC during the latter part of Q3 2025, while other titles will sunset once they are no longer cash flow positive.”
First steps
The Swedish firm said it prioritised operational efficiency in Q2 by transferring 24 legacy Storm8 titles from its North America studio to the Imperia team in Bulgaria.
“This transfer is designed to extend the life of these games while significantly improving their cost profile,” said Bonte.
The company said as its strategic review progresses, game transfers and closures mark the first phase of a broader plan to streamline its portfolio and focus on high-potential franchises.
