PSA: Movies Anywhere Allows You To ‘Sync’ Your Xbox Purchases With Other Film Providers

Last week, Microsoft announced that its ‘Movies & TV’ service would be coming to an end across Xbox and other platforms, with the company immediately removing the ability to buy film and television content on the Microsoft Store.

The fortunate part is that your existing purchases are safe (at least for now), still accessible via the dedicated Movies & TV (or “Films & TV”) app on Xbox in a streaming form, and they can kind of be downloaded on PC too.

If you want another option though – and you’re located in the United States – it might be worth signing up for something called Movies Anywhere. This is a service that syncs your movies between multiple platforms including Microsoft Movies & TV, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and others, allowing you to access them all from just one location.

Now, there’s one big catch here (aside from the fact it’s US-only) – Movies Anywhere only supports some of your Microsoft Movies & TV purchases. We’ve seen a lot of people in the comments of the above tweet mentioning that they’re missing parts of their content through Movies Anywhere, so it’s not a 100% perfect solution by any means.

There’s also the concern that if Movies Anywhere ditches support for Microsoft Movies & TV soon, you’ll lose access to that content through the service anyway. For the time being though, it’s still officially supported.

For what it’s worth, here’s what Microsoft says about Movies Anywhere integration following last week’s news:

“You cannot directly move your purchased content to another service. You will still be able to access and play purchased content on the Microsoft Movies & TV App. If you’re in the U.S., you can sign up for Movies Anywhere to connect select purchased movies with other Movies Anywhere retailers.”

Anyway, give it a try, see how you get on with it, and maybe you’ll find it a more useful solution for playing your Microsoft Movies & TV stuff in the future. A big advantage is that there’s a dedicated mobile app for Movies Anywhere on Android and iOS, meaning you’re not just restricted to PC and the clunky/outdated app on Xbox consoles!
