Anthem Is Shutting Down In January 2026, Confirms EA
Anthem will officially shut down for good on January 12, 2026, Electronic Arts has announced.
The publishing giant confirmed that in-game currency is no longer being sold, although if you have any remaining currency you can still use it until the shutoff date. Beginning August 15, 2025, Anthem will be removed from EA Play, but can still be downloaded if it’s already in your library.

Anthem was released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in February 2019, and arrived on back of a ton of hype and marketing from EA, with the game billed as the publisher’s answer to Bungie’s shared-world shooter, Destiny. Despite all this, Anthem arrived on the scene to lukewarm reviews and failed to live up to commercial expectations.
Developer BioWare had planned to totally revamp the game with Anthem 2.0, which was compared to how Square Enix reworked Final Fantasy XIV from its initial 2010 release into a hugely successful MMORPG that is still going strong to this day. Unfortunately this wasn’t to be, as after a meeting with EA and BioWare executives in February 2021, it was confirmed that these efforts would be discontinued.
Anthem can still be played until the shut down date, and if you’re still interested in it and curious to find out more, you can always read our full review here.
