Media conglomerate Perfect World is conducting an internal anti-corruption investigation into alleged violations of company policies and labour contracts by multiple employees.
According to local reports, some staff members and supplier leaders are also suspected of criminal activity. The company has also reported the cases to law enforcement authorities.
“Since the beginning of this year, the company has received many reports about employees and suppliers colluding with each other, engaging in malpractice, damaging the company’s interests and violating conflict of interest regulations,” a Perfect World statement read.
“Upon investigation, the behaviour of some employees has seriously violated the company’s rules and regulations, such as the “Employee Handbook”, “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics” and the “Employment Contract”.”
Cases investigated
The investigation has reportedly implicated several employees, including the former head of Million Studio, the planning department head, an HR manager, and members of the art teams from the Zhuxian and New Zhuxian World projects at Qingyun Studio, as well as the art team leader from Hardcore Studio.
Moreover, four suppliers were blacklisted including Chengdu Xiyou Tribe, Chengdu Qiaokeli, Guangzhou Tuku Network, and Chengdu Miaoshixiong Network.
Perfect World emphasised its commitment to integrity, discipline, and compliance as core company values. It stated it will strictly punish any fraudulent or self-serving behaviour that harms the company.
In June last year, reports indicated that Perfect World laid off around 1,000 staff across multiple cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. Later that same year in December, Scopely acquired Perfect World’s Chengfeng Studio for $34.5 million.
The move saw most of the studio’s employees, including its core team, leave to form a new company in China, with Scopely holding a minority stake.
