Roblox-based game Grow a Garden has hit a new record concurrent user level for the platform, at 21.3 million on June 21st.
The gardening game has set many records already as its popularity continues to grow, with its latest milestone making it the first and only game to surpass 20m concurrent players.
This feat doesn’t apply only to Roblox but makes Grow a Garden the most concurrently played game on record – beating everything from PUBG: Battlegrounds to Fortnite.
Roblox strategy consultant James Purell highlighted Grow a Garden’s latest achievement on LinkedIn, stating it “shattered every gaming record in existence” and surpassed Fortnite’s highest peak of 15.3m from late 2020.
From one record to another
Before Grow a Garden’s release, the Roblox record for concurrent users in an experience was less than 5m. Then the gardening simulator came along this March, and by May it had begun setting the new standard.
From a then-record 5m concurrent users to 7.3m to 8.9m, Grow a Garden continued to best its own records and ultimately more than doubled Steam’s record 3.2m concurrent users for a single game by the end of May.
Now, Grow a Garden has more than doubled its own record in a single month.
“What should terrify every triple-A studio executive is that it was built by indie developers in a fraction of the time it takes traditional studios to even greenlight a project,” said Purell.
The experience has further served to bolster Roblox’s concurrent user count platform-wide, surpassing 30m across all experiences. Although, Grow a Garden doesn’t typically sustain its peaks for long. After the 21.3m peak was reached at 3PM BST on June 21st, concurrent users fell to 7.6m by 4PM and 5.5m by 5PM.
Over the last 14 days, the experience has averaged 2.7m concurrent users and surpassed 10m only twice.
Still, the experience is currently Roblox’s top-ranking game for revenue. As for total lifetime visits, Grow a Garden holds the record for fastest Roblox experience to hit one billion and has since surpassed 10bn.
