Sony Boss Responds To Switch 2 Launch: ‘PS5-Level Performance Is Required’ For ‘Great Experience On Big Screens’

Speaking with investors following its Sony’s latest business segment, the company’s president and CEO, Hideaki Nishino, responded about concerns from investors over the Nintendo Switch 2 technical specifications and the implication it may prove tougher competition for PlayStation.

In response, Nishino-san noted that the hardware manufacturer is always keeping an eye on how he games industry is evolving, but noted that it Sony believes that, in order to achieve ‘great experience’ on big screens, then a PS5-level performance is required.

We closely monitor the overall gaming industry, including the action of other market participants. Additionally, a catalyst in the market is great for the industry as a whole. As they invigorate excitement they demand more product, so it’s great to have people launching new things.

As I mentioned previously, we have a different strategy. PlayStation 5 is designed for immersive gaming experiences, and this includes the innovative DualSense controller features as well. We believe PS5-level performance is required to achieve a great experience on big screens, and in this way we have provided a unique offering for players and creators in this current console generation.

Sony also touched base on the PS6 briefly during the business segment, with Nishino saying that the company is aware there is a lot of interest in its next-generation console plans. In addition, the console maker also reported that the PS5 has recorded more active monthly users than PS4 for the first time in its near-five year history.
