Somehow this Switch survived a housefire and firehose drenching
The Switch has been around for 8 years now, and millions of owners are still using their launch-day system without issue. Sure, the colors may have faded and the screens may be a bit scuffed, but for most of us the Switch has endured through weekly, if not daily use. Well, turns out that’s nothing compared to one Switch owner who saw their system survive an attack from the elements.
Redditor Smooth_Awareness_698 had the misfortune of being hit with a housefire where most of their belongings were severely damaged, if not completely destroyed. As Smooth_Awareness_698 was sifting through the wreckage, they happened upon their child’s Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s Edition Switch.
While you might think the Switch had no shot of coming out the other side of a fire, turns out the opposite was true. Once Smooth_Awareness_698 got to testing the various items that could be salvaged from the fire, it turns out the Switch was still alive and kicking. Plugging it in brought the system back to life, and as you can see above, the top of the unit has seen better days, but the screen seems to be good to go!
What makes this even more impressive is that the Switch didn’t just survive the fire, it also escaped water damage from the gallons and gallons of water that the firefighters doused the house with. You’d think fire alone would be enough to kill the Switch, but somehow neither fire or water could bring an end to this Switch.
While the Switch is still very much playable, it didn’t come out the other side of this mishap completely unscathed. Smooth_Awareness_698 says that the system’s headphone jack is shot, and one of the speakers doesn’t work. Outside of that, everything else seems to be functioning as-intended. Even dropping the Switch into a dock still works no problem!
If ever there were a candidate to take up the mantle of Nintendo NY’s Game Boy that survived the Gulf War, it absolutely has to be this Switch!
