EA’s Black Panther Game Has Been Cancelled, Cliffhanger Games Set To Close
Electronic Arts has revealed that it is cancelling the Black Panther game in development at Cliffhanger Games and shuttering the studio.
Speaking in an email sent to staff, Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment, revealed that the decision — alongside a number of recent layoffs and other game cancellations — are the result of the need to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
These decisions are hard. They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.

Miele added that EA is now going to focus its efforts on a small collection of franchises going forward, including Battlefield, The Sims, Skate and Apex Legends. The executive also reaffirmed that the new Mass Effect game is still in development at BioWare, as is EA Motive’s Iron Man and the next Star Wars: Jedi title.
Electronic Arts first announced the single-player Black Panther game in July 2023, revealing the project was being developed in collaboration with Marvel Games. Ex-Monolith Productions head Kevin Stephens was heading up the title, which also featured people who worked on Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, and God of War.
