GEX Brings Three Retro Games To Xbox This Summer, Here’s A Look
Update []: We’ve got a date! It’s been announced that the GEX Trilogy will release on June 16th, 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, with pre-orders for the physical editions beginning May 9th via Limited Run Games.
You can check out the newest trailer for the game(s) up above.
“Limited Run Games, a premium publisher of physical games, has announced that Gex Trilogy will be launching on PC and consoles starting 16 June 2025. Pre-orders for three physical editions of Gex Trilogy will open on 9 May, including the Tail Time Edition complete with a 7” Gex statue, a 36” inflatable Gex doll, and other premium collectibles!”
“Gex Trilogy brings plenty of quality of life improvements to the channel surfing Gecko’s games, scaling things up with Rewind and Save Anywhere features across all included titles. Additionally, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko will support native 16:9 widescreen, and have been rebuilt with full 360 degree analogue control, a huge step up from the 8-directional movement featured in the original titles. Gex was always one smooth reptile, but now he feels slicker than a slimy salamander, controlling better than ever before.”
Original Story: 3D platformers were once at the forefront of the gaming industry, and while we’ve had the odd resurgence like PlayStation’s Astro Bot last year, many other mascots have been long-forgotten. Sometimes there are revivals though, and it seems the anthropomorphic gecko Gex will be making a return later this year in the GEX Trilogy.
Limited Run Games previously announced it was reviving the Crystal Dynamics series, and now in an update, it’s locked in a Summer 2025 release window for all platforms including the Xbox Series X|S. This collection is powered by the Carbon Engine and includes the original 2D platformer GEX along with the two 3D sequels GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
“Things are about to get weirder than the 4th of July at Rick James’ place! Everyone’s favorite tail-whipping, channel-surfing gecko is back in a collection that features all of his best-selling adventures! This Carbon Engine powered collection includes extras and numerous improvements like that bring GEX back into prime time!”
This particular release will also come with the ability to “rewind and save anywhere” and will also feature various other “extras and improvements” such as native widescreen support. Would you be interested in revisiting GEX’s platformer past on Xbox? Let us know in the comments.
