Blizzard has reportedly selected Nexon as a partner for the distribution rights for Overwatch Mobile and a new Starcraft title.

Korean news site Money Today Broadcasting (MTN) learned that Nexon has been selected as the preferred bidder. Nexon has now commenced main negotiations to collaborate on the ‘Starcraft IP and secure distribution rights for ‘Overwatch Mobile’ in Korea and Japan.

Since the fourth quarter of last year, Blizzard has been bidding for major Korean game companies, offering content development rights for the ‘Starcraft’ IP and Korean and Japanese service rights for ‘Overwatch Mobile’ as a package.

It is reported that Nexon, NCSoft and Netmarble all participated actively in the bidding process.

Proposed rights

A bidding proposal for the Starcraft IP was made without restrictions on genre and content type.

Overwatch Mobile which is informally being referred to as Overwatch 3 by domestic game companies involved in the bidding, is reportedly a MOBA style title.

Blizzard proposed a condition for Overwatch Mobile where distribution rights would be limited to Korea and Japan, which did not meet the expectations of domestic game companies seeking global distribution rights.

NCSoft co-CEO Park Byung-moo led the bidding and showed strong enthusiasm, while Netmarble held a competition for its developers to propose new Starcraft IP development plans. The specific bid submitted by Nexon was not disclosed.
