Frostpunk 1886 Confirmed For 2027 Release, Builds On The Original Game With New Content, Mechanics, Laws & More

11 bit Studios has announced it is reimagining the original Frostpunk with the Unreal Engine 5-powered Frostpunk 1886, which is scheduled for release in 2027 for the PC and promises to greatly expand on the much-loved first instalment with a wealth of new content.

While a console release has yet to be confirmed, there’s a few details we do have to tuck into regarding Frostpunk 1886. The game is not just a simple visual upgrade; rather, it promises new content, mechanics, laws, and a brand new Purpose path, offering a fresh experience for seasoned players. Developed kicked off in early 2025, and is set to kick off a “new era for 11 bit studios,” which looks to focus on providing more frequent in-house projects.

Reimagining Frostpunk in Unreal Engine also allows the game to become a living, expandable platform, bringing with it long-awaited mod support—a community request that was previously impossible to realize due to technical limitations of the original engine—as well as the possibility to add future downloadable content content.

11 bit Studios previously confirmed that it is working on a new Frostpunk game during its latest financial call last week, during which the 2027 release window was also revealed.
