A Full System Shock 2 Remake Could Still Happen Despite Nightdive Studios Issuing A Remaster In June

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is coming out this June, but developer Nightdive Studios has said that this doesn’t necessarily mean that the team won’t be able to do a full-blown remake later down the line.

Nightdive Studios released a full System Shock Remake back in May 2024, and while the second game isn’t receiving the same treatment, the studio said at the Game Developers Conference this month that more content is lined up, but couldn’t confirm if this was a System Shock 2 Remake or not. However, going by the below statement, it would seem unwise to rule it out at this point.

You’re going to see a remaster of System Shock 2. I’ve been asked twice earlier today why we didn’t do a remake, and I said, ‘are you somehow under the impression that because we do a remaster that we won’t be able to do a remake in the future?’ That might be something that I can either confirm or deny. But there’s going to be content coming out.

Speaking during the same interview, Nightdive Studios said that it hopes to clarify the situation on System Shock 3 ‘potentially within a year,’ after the game vanished from the public domain after being worked on at Otherside Entertainment for a few years.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is scheduled for release on June 26, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
