Until Dawn Remake Developer Ballistic Moon Is Reportedly “Effectively Closed,” After Suffering Another Round Of Layoffs
Ballistic Moon was the team PlayStation tapped to work on the Until Dawn Remake, a release that seemed more about drumming up hype for an upcoming film adaptation that it was about bringing a beloved title into the current-gen with a PS5 facelift.
At least, thatโs the impression players got when they loaded up the new version and discovered it was riddled with bugs, and in some cases looked worse than its PS4 counterpart.
Some of those issues have been fixed, but not all of them, and according to a new report it looks like they might not ever be fixed. Insider-Gaming reports that Ballistic Moon is โeffectively closed,โ after suffering another round of layoffs at the tail end of 2024.
We already knew that Ballistic Moon laid off an unconfirmed number of developers (allegedly around 40) just ahead of Until Dawnโs PS5 launch. Insider-Gamingโs report on Wednesday claims that those who survived that layoff stayed to provide post-launch support on Until Dawnโs PS5 version, and that in December 2024, the rest of staff were also laid off.
Ballistic Moon is now allegedly down to just the founders, and potentially a few employees โat most.โ One of Insider-Gamingโs sources said โPeople are sharing bugs theyโve found in the game to make the team aware but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore. The studio has effectively closed now.โ
The report continues to claim that Ballistic Moonโs closing came down to the owners not being able to find another project for the team before it was unable to pay them.
